Visual Communication

Projects focusing on clear communication of complex concepts to a particular audience

Petra Project

Project Overview

This project was created in collaboration with Professor of Archaeology Felipe Rojas from Brown University and Professor of Anthropology Sarah Newman at the University of Chicago based on their current archeological research in Petra, Jordan. I worked with one partner to brainstorm and illustrate this piece which will be used for the professors educational and research purposes.

Project Brief

The visual that the researchers needed for this site would show that the various features of the system are interconnected by a complex water system and other elements, such as cisterns, baetyls, and a sluice. The target illustrations should be a combination of plans and sections and perspectival drawings in order to convey the system and the scale of the cliff.

Project Focus

Archaeological illustration, technical drawing, collaboration with researchers

Tools

Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate

Initial Sketching

Exploration Process

Below are some early sketches where I am brainstorming the best way to organize the layout of the system in order to demonstrate the complex interaction of water with the cliffs and other elements.

Final Graphic

Research Collaboration Result

Based on feedback received from the researchers, my partner and I created this final piece demonstrating the various elements of the system, the height of the cliffs, and the interconnected water network.

Medical Illustration

Project Background

In the carousel below are illustrations with a focus on medical communication from my internship and various courses.

Professional Experience

During my internship with UNC Chapel Hill in the Department of Neurosurgery in summer of 2023, I created a variety of works focused on clearly illustrating medical concepts for surgeon and resident research.

Audubon Society Poster

Project Goal

For this project, I created an educational poster for the Audubon Society of Rhode Island focusing on the importance of salt marshes. This poster will be used in the Audubon Society's educational programming.

Project Focus

Visual communication, layout design, environmental education

Tools

Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate

Final Design

Educational Impact

The final poster design balances scientific accuracy with visual appeal to effectively communicate the ecological importance of salt marsh ecosystems to diverse audiences.

Reflections

Key Learnings

These projects challenged me to think and plan strategically to accurately and effectively communicate information to a particular audience. The projects require deep and thoughtful research in order to understand the topic at hand and best capture the information needed.

Future Development

I hope to continue refining my visual communication skills by working on my understanding of graphic design and learning how to combine these types of projects with new technology and UI/UX.
